Onions and mandarin oranges, making the most of ingredients grown on Awaji Island

Roadside Station Uzushio overlooking the Onaruto Bridge. There is a hamburger store where customers line up on holidays. Waiting at the end of the line is the "Awajishima Onion Beef Burger" (648 yen), which sells 150,000 units a year. It is a signature item with Awaji Island onion cutlets and Awaji beef cooked in a sweet and spicy sauce sandwiched between buns.
If you have come all the way to Awaji Island, try the Awajishima Onion Soft (324 yen). Awajishima onions are mixed with consommé to give the soft serve its distinctive aroma and sweetness. The unique aroma and sweetness of onions wafts through your nose, making you feel as if you are tasting cold soup rather than soft serve ice cream. The thick rolls and chubby shape are adorable.
The refreshing "Awajishima Gutto Mikan Soft" (324 yen) is also recommended for the coming season. It is mixed with plenty of straight juice squeezed from tangerines caught on Awaji Island. The juice used in the soft drink, "Gutto Mikan," is available at the Uzunokuni store inside the roadside station (500 yen for 300 ml, 1,000 yen for 720 ml).
Awajishima Milk Soft" using rich Awaji Island milk, a mix of milk and mandarin oranges, and a mix of milk and onions are also available (324 yen each). It tastes even better when enjoyed on the terrace in the sea breeze.
There is also a store at the Uzu-no-oka Onaruto Bridge Memorial Museum, a 10-minute drive from the roadside station, which plans to start selling Jikozuku Shio Soft (324 yen) in early July. This sweet and sour soft serve uses salt made from seawater on Awaji Island.
